Dual-Purpose Batteries

These batteries offer a great blend of robust start-up power and outstanding deep cycling capability, which makes them well-suited for smaller boats that may have minimal space. The strong starting power ensures that the ignition will be fired up very quickly, whilst in challenging conditions. The excellent deep cycling capability allows for longer usage of onboard electronics and systems without the concern of draining the battery too quickly. Battery Technologies

Marine batteries come in different variations, so lets go through them:

Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries (LFP)

Our focus is on LFP batteries. They have a longer lifespan than the options below, are more compact and provide higher energy in the same space. They consequently provide a better return on investiment. Marine standard sizes and custom packs are available, as is certification to ABYC standard.

Flooded Lead-Acid Batteries (FLA)

These batteries are perhaps the most commonly used version of marine batteries. This type of battery is used for their cost-effective purposes making them very popular for most marine applications. Their lower comparative safety, lead content, shorter lifespan and weight do not comaper favourably to LFP batteries.

Absorbent Glass Mat Batteries (AGM)

These batteries are more advanced than lead-acid batteries. They are manufactured with absorbent glass mats that hold the electrolyte in place, reducing spillages thanks to their sealed construction. This design has advantages over FLA batteries such as reduced upkeep, providing better performance and fast charging, while also providing high resistance to vibrations. However, they are more expensive, heavier, and are susceptible to overcharging.
