Lead-acid batteries

These batteries are the usual option for AGVs because they’re affordable and are made to be durable. They can manage high discharge rates and work well in tough temperature conditions, but sadly, they do have their cons. Their heavy weight can limit an AGV’s payload capacity and efficiency. Plus, they’re battery life usually lasts about 500 to 1,000 charge cycles, this means you’ll need to get them replaced most of the time. They’re also not very environmentally friendly, since they contain harmful materials like lead and sulfuric acid which can lead to environmental issues.

Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries

This type of battery nowadays is the most popular option when it comes to AGVs. They pack more energy, which means they can run longer, and they’re lightweight, making AGVs more nimble and simpler to use. Plus, these batteries have a very good charge cycle. often going beyond 2,000 charges, they also aren’t as high maintenance as other battery types. These batteries are often chosen for better environmental purposes, since they don’t have the harmful substances that lead-acid batteries do.

Nickel-Metal Hydride

These are a great option when you want a mixture of high performance and affordability. They pack more punch than lead-acid batteries and have a much better running time through charge cycles. That said, they can go through voltage drops when tested to their limits, which can affect how well AGVs perform during busy spells. Its best to keep a close eye on the charging to avoid the AGV to be overcharged or letting the machine drain its energy, as that can decrease its lifespan.
